Balancing school and Quran education: 5 successful ways

Balancing School and Quran Education: How to Continue Both Education Without Burdening Children?

In today's era, every parent wants their child to excel in worldly education and also gain religious knowledge. But in practice, maintaining this balance becomes a challenge. It is often seen that Quran education is abandoned during exam days or the child starts moving away from Quran due to the burden of school.

If you are also suffering from the same struggle, then these are some practical ways that can make your child's educational journey easier:

1. The Magic of Morning (Blessing Time)

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "Blessing has been reserved for my Ummah in the morning." Try to complete the Quran lesson before going to school in the morning. The mind is fresh in the morning and the child memorizes the lesson quickly. When the Quran is fulfilled in the morning, the child will be mentally free for school work throughout the day.

2. Time Management

Do not make school and the Quran enemies of each other, but set a time for them. Make a simple timetable for the child:

  • Rest after school: Do not make him sit down to study as soon as he comes home, but let him sleep or play for a while.
  • Short but consistent: Instead of setting up long sessions for the Quran, set aside 45 minutes to an hour, but this time should be daily.

3. Take "breaks", not "reductions" during exams

The biggest mistake is that the Quran class is completely stopped on the days of papers. This sends the message to the child's mind that the Quran is secondary. Instead, reduce the amount of lessons (for example, only a quarter of a paragraph or a few verses). In this way, the child's connection with the word of Allah will not be broken and his memory will also be maintained.

4. Take advantage of home tuition

Home tuition or online tuition is the best for school-going children. This saves the child time commuting and allows him to study at his own pace in the comfort of his home. Due to the individual attention, he memorizes more lessons in less time, which helps him cope with the school load.

5. Encouragement and love for the child

Never let the child feel that reading the Quran is a burden or an "extra duty" for him. Tell him that with the blessings of the Quran, Allah Almighty will also make his school exams easy. When the child performs well in both places, praise him so that he feels that he is doing something great.

Summary: Religion and the world are not two separate paths, rather religion wants us to succeed in the world as well. With proper planning and a little patience, your child can become an excellent student and also a mature qari or hafiz.
